Humpback Whale - Stevens Passage

This 12 second video is a composite of about 26 images of a humpback whale surfacing in Steven Passage on May 26, 2009. The actual time lapse was about 26 seconds. It is jerky but gets the point across. My GPS recorded the coordinates as being Latitude/Longitude: N57° 26.32', W133° 46.31'

Frederick Sound, Dahlgren Peak, Washington Peak

Frederick Sound lies between Chatham Strait and Steven's Passage just South of Admiralty Island.

The weather of the day was overcast but some sunlight was reflecting off of the low-lying clouds near the mountains.

Pilot Boat - Strait of Juan de Fuca

Cruise ships within Puget Sound must have professional pilots who are shuttled to and from the ships in these boats. This exchange, as we passed Port Angeles, occurred around 8 pm, with the late day sun illuminating the Pilot Boat. As soon as the pilot departed the ship, the captain made a sharp turn north to head into the center of the Strait staddling the border between the U.S. and Canada.

Pike Place Market

Of course, we could not visit Seattle without buying fruit, pastries and cheese from Pike Place Market. The Crater Lake Blue Cheese from Beecher's Handmade Cheese was a particular favorite.
